India-based Petrochemical Giant Achieves 777 MW Of energy Savings Using Thermax Absorption Chillers

A reputed petrochemical company based in India markets propylene glycol and polyols and produces tons of propylene oxide, propylene glycol and polyether polyol and system polyol annually. Since its inception, the company has been meeting the domestic and global demand of the polyurethane industry successfully with high-class production.

Like every other company in the petrochemical industry, this India-based petrochemical giant produces various byproducts while processing raw crude oil. Propylene is one such byproduct that is further converted into propylene oxide by undergoing four stages of processing: 1. Vaporization, 2. Cholohydrination, 3. Saponification, 4. Purification. This Propylene Oxide is further used as propylene glycols/polyurethane materials.

In the above four processes, waste heat can be found in abundance. In particular, a waste heat source at low-temperature levels (73°C-77°C) is found in the form of a solution at the end of the saponification process. This ultra low-grade heat can be an excellent source for meeting the cooling and heating requirements of the factory if used properly. This is where Thermax's one of the best innovations, Ultra Low Temperature Hot Water Chiller, comes and saves much of the factory's energy resources with its unique technology.

Thermax Ultra Low Temperature Hot Water Chiller is an energy-efficient solution to repurpose ultra-low temperature waste heat to meet the cooling demand, thus reducing carbon footprint and operational cost. This Chiller requires hot water of 60 - 80°C to produce chilled water as low as 1°C / brine temperatures as low as minus(-)5°C. To know more, visit: https://bit.ly/3yoCUud

The petrochemical giant commissioned the chiller recently to repurpose the low-grade heat left behind in various processes to produce the required cooling and heating utilities for the plant. As a result, the company achieved 777 MW of energy savings and 650 tons of carbon savings per year. Our solution helped the company become not only energy efficient but also sustainable for a better and greener tomorrow.
